Queen Latifah

Dana Elaine Owens - better known to the public as Queen Latifah is an American actor, rapper and a singer. Queen Latifah is an American actress, rapper and performer. Queen Latifah is an Newark New Jersey native. Her parents were Lancelot Sr. as a police officer and Rita who was a educator of Irvington High School. Latifah's parents divorced when she was just 10 years old. Latifah was a student at a Catholic school, and she was educated within Newark New Jersey. She was a member of the Baptist church. In her early twenties, her cousin gave Latifah the name of a stage Latifah which translates to gentle and loving in Arabic. Always tall, the 5'10 tall Latifah was a power forward on the basketball team at her high school. She performed the song "Home" from The Wiz in the course of a show in her high school. Latifah was a beatboxer in The Ladies Fresh rap band. Latifah is among the original members of Flavor Unit, which was in the beginning a group composed of MCs led by DJ Mark the 45 King. Mark James aka the 45 King recorded a rendition of Queen Latifah's Princess of the Posse rap. The recording was given to Yo! MTV Raps the Fab Five Freddy. Dante Ross of Tommy Boy Music was enthralled by the track. The singer signed Latifah and then released her first track Wrath of My Madness in 1988.
